Summary: A Major Contribution to the Literature on Alien Abductions
Comment: Sometimes a well-researched and well-written novel is worth a hundred learned treatises. This is especially true when it comes to making sense out of elusive phenomena such as UFOs, alien abductions, and the paranormal, all of which lie far outside our ordinary experiential framework. Bruce Maccabee, a highly respected UFO researcher, has produced a work of fiction that cuts to the heart of the matters in question. Indeed, his book-within-a-book, written by "Mac Sargent, Ph.D.," does a beautiful job of synthesizing the essential elements of ufology against the background of a set of fictional but extremely realistic and well-drawn alien abductions. Maccabee writes with great authority, and those who read this book will come away from it with a vastly better understanding not only of ufology, but also of the impact of what I've come to call the "Alien Raj" on the denizens of this planet, human and otherwise. As one who has attempted something similar in a recent novel, my hat is off to him. ABDUCTION IN MY LIFE has a secure place on that short-list of books that I sincerely wish I'd written! (And yes, with "Dr. Mac Sargent," I surely do "hope they're friendly!")

Comment: A review of Bruce Maccabee's stunning new Novel "Abductions In My Life."

by Alfred Lehmberg

Increasingly, Ufology and its sister phenomena, the Abduction enigma, provide a cutting edge perspective on the whole of Human experience. As such, these perplexing anomalies are in a position to facilitate substantive "firsts", new initiatives, or useful new inventions. One such recent initiative is no less than the invention of a NEW LITERARY FORM! Verily! This singular ufological *first* is discovered in Dr. Bruce Maccabee's new book, "Abductions In My Life," and proves to be a stunning "first time" accomplishment of particular efficacy on any level the reader cares to name! ...No hyperbole here!

Summary: Brisk, informative and comprehensive
Comment: Dr. Bruce Maccabee's "Abduction in My Life" is a part-fiction, part-fact overview of the UFO phenomenon written from the perspective of an incredulous science fiction writer. While Maccabee's treatise-written-as-a-novel may fail somewhat as a piece of literature (the characters are basically props on which to erect the author's ufological insights), "Abduction in My Life" succeeds wonderfully in introducing the reader to the bizarre world of UFO sightings and the implications of contact with nonhuman intelligence. A crisply written nonfiction book is interwoven in Maccabee's narrative, nicely complimenting the fictional abduction investigated by the protaganist.

Maccabee saves the best for the final chapter, in which Maccabee's alter-ego (?) Dr. Mac Sargent takes us on a first-rate ontological crash-course, framing the UFO/alien problem in its cosmic and societal contexts. Do we dare admit the presence of alien craft in our skies? What does the UFO phenomenon tell us about our species' past? Will homo sapiens survive the next millennium? Such questions form the heart of this book. Maccabee's speculations are sanely presented and mentally invigorating. "Abduction in My Life" is a brisk yet erudite introduction to the subject of alien contact.
