Rating: 5
Summary: Great entry into bone health and prevention of Osteoporosis
Comment: Dr. Anderson's concise, clear explanation of bone health and the key factors in preventing and treating osteoporosis is a "must read" for all women. 50% of all women will suffer an osteoporosis related fracture in their lifetimes! I am passing this book on to my mother, sister and grandmother.
According to Dr. Anderson, we reach our key bone mass in our late 20's and early 30's, after which time we lose .5 - 1% of bone mass annually. And women can lose up to 3% when breast feeding, and also the 5-8 year period during and following menopause. The key is the need to "peak high" via good nutrition.
Osteoporosis is largely preventable - through diet, exercise and behaviour management. It is also possible to treat with prescription drugs, and now dietary supplements such as ipriflavone, marketed under the brand name Ostivone. Ipriflavone is clinically proven to inhibit bone loss and even promote an increase in bone mass, without the side effects associated with many pharmaceuticals - as a believer in the natural products industry this finding is incredibly exciting.
This book is not a medical primer, and does not go into incredible depth, but it does provide a broad basis of information and is easy to understand.
Read this book, and pass it on!
