Summary: Powerful punch for such a small book...
Comment: Generally speaking, I've never been into "self-help" or "metaphysical" books... I usually find them repeating the same old message throughout hundreds of pages. In my opinion, most self-help books could be cut down to about 50 pages and still leave you with the same message as a 400 page book. The great thing about "The Four Agreements" was the brevity... it can easily be read in a day. And besides being brief, this small book has a unique tone and a unique message - I'm not surprised that it remains a bestseller three years after it was published. The Toltec teachings that don Miguel Ruiz writes about aren't exclusively Toltec - many of them match up to the teachings of other religions and can most certainly be applied to any religious or spiritual path. I highly recommend that this book be read several times to pick up on every pearl of wisdom that Ruiz has to offer. And, after a few readings, you may even begin to realize that the Four Agreements have started working in your life subconsciously... they've slowly worked their way into my life without me even realizing it!

Summary: Simple, Beautiful...and Powerful
Comment: When you recall some of your most peaceful, fulfilling experiences, how many of them occurred while your mind was clear and uncluttered? Most of them, if you're like me. This author understands and effectively communicates some of the keys that bring peace and joy to life. In contrast with some books that offer scores of tips and suggestions that will likely have little impact on our lives, Miguel Ruiz presents his message with clarity and sensitivity. I was skeptical when I opened this book. I really wasn't interested in "Toltec wisdom." I wasn't interested in "New Age"-sounding theories. What I found in "The Four Agreements" transcends religions and philosophies. I wish I had been open to, received, understood, and acted on this message decades ago. The four agreements encompass a way to live. They are not primarily a subject for intellectual debate. We all know, for example, that it is not possible to literally "make no assumptions" in life. On the other hand, learning to (i) take far fewer things personally and (ii) minimize the assumptions about what I want from relationships with others has helped me tremendously. While my reviews often point out the types of people who probably won't like certain books, I think almost anyone can enjoy, be touched by, and gain greater peace and joy through the help of this book.

Comment: This is a beautifully written book coming from the sincere and simple yet profound wisdom that will help many people if applied. I found this to be among the few books I have purchased where the solutions for humanity are filled with compassion, inspiration and expansive wisdom as well as compassion.
