Summary: Amazing and Complex
Comment: This is the most complex and intricate storyline I have ever read. That is saying a lot because I am quite the avid reader, but this story takes relationships and character histories to a new level. At first it may not seem so thick in this first volume, but trust me, in the 19 that come after it, this story blossoms, twists, and moves forward and backward in every imaginable way. It becomes so big and deep that explaining any one character or plot point to somebody else takes ten minutes of explaining five other important related plot points. It is simply amazing because this complex nature brings intricate twists to the story and characters that are exciting and endearing. I have been reading the series as a learning tool here in Heidelberg while studying abroad in Germany, but I have to admit, this series immediately became like a drug to me. I am so addicted to it! I look forward to finding out what will happen in the next one, but at the same time, I have read through each one I have several times to enjoy all of the plot again over and over. I can't say that I have ever felt this connected with a story and characters before!
This story is involved with angels, demons, the heirarchy of heaven and hell, the appocalypse, and other supernatural concepts. I personally think that is great, but I should say as a con for many people is that the story doesn't accurately go along with the bible. Others have taken this as anti-Christian, and I suppose that all depends on how sensitive one is about these things. As long as one has an open mind about things, one will not be offended about Yuki's interpretation of heaven and hell.
One point that might bother many readers is the forbidden love between the main character Setsuna and his sister Sara. However, even though it bothered me that they romantically have feelings for one another, the way that it is presented is so powerful that my feelings grew into sadness for the two characters because they CAN'T be together even though they know that they will never be as happy with anyone else. Even this taboo love is transformed into something that people can understand through the storytelling skills of Yuki.
Anyway, I highly recommend this gem of a story. I hope that many of you fall in love with it and read it several times as I have.

Summary: Still crying
Comment: Though a relative newcomer to manga, i have to say that this is the most beautiful piece i have ever seen. The artwork is breathtaking and complements the intricate storyline perfectly. Though on the cover it is classed as shojo, i don't believe any gender could fail to be moved by this tale of angels, demons, humans, heaven, hell and earth and of course of forbidden love. The characterisation is perfect, not at all contrived, the care the main characters feel for each other is so obviously real and true and at times heartbraking. A friend introduced me to Angel Sanctuary a while ago and i heard that the manga's were supposed to be excellent though they had not yet been translated, i bought the anime DVD's and enjoyed them imensely, feeling that is the manga came anywhere close i would be very happy, but it surpassed everything i thought, making the anime seem trivial and insignificant in comparison. This manga is a must have for anyone, it is so deep and moving and beautiful and also humerous at times. Kaori Yuki is a genius.

Summary: Awesome
Comment: I am so glad they finally translated this text into English. I read the German version a year ago, and the English translation is pretty close to that one. Angel Sanctuary is by far my favorite anime of all time. Yuki's complex character and story development will keep you intrigued! Not to mention, her artwork is awesome and high quality. The story may be a little confusing at first, but once you read farther and maybe a couple times over, it'll be a lot clearer. I highly recommend this series! On a side note, this obviously isn't for younger readers since there is language, violence, gender bending, etc.
