Summary: I would give it 10 stars if I could!
Comment: What first attracted me to this book was the fact that it won the "Christy Award" for the best first novel. But what kept me reading past the first chapter was the realistic, delightful character of Erma Lee. When we first meet her, Erma Lee has left her no-good abusive husband. She takes her granddaughter Cher with her. They find a town called Wiregrass, Alabama where Erma Lee finds a job, friendship and a whole new life in the person of Miss Claudia, a wealthy older lady.
The author shows how being a survivor of bad circumstances isn't something just for the poor - even Miss Claudia has her secrets. This book is almost impossible to put down. The story line is so believable, and the writing style is incredible. I can't wait to read Michael Morris's next book!

Summary: A Must Read
Comment: A Place Called Wiregrass kept me captivated from cover to cover. It's rare to find a book you really can't put down. I was drawn into the life of Erma Lee by the strong story line, vivid imagery, and powerful language. Her journey from a destitute life to one of independence was very uplifting. The relationships she formed along the way were inspirational. I felt like I knew Erma Lee, Gerald, Cher, and Miss Claudia. I will definitely look for Michael Morris' next book.

Summary: Where is the movie?
Comment: A movie needs to be made out of this book! It reminded me of one of the Hallmark TV movies. It is a beautiful story with characters that seem like real folks. The main character is a gal who gets her wings and learns to fly. The elderly Miss Claudia shows her how. A book that pulled at my heart strings. A made for TV movie if I ever read one! Loved it!
