Summary: A must have, guaranteed to lower your scores by 5+ shots
Comment: I am a 4 handicap and if I could point to one thing that has helped me move from shooting in the 80s to shooting in the 70s it would be this book (along with hours of practice which is unavoidable).
Tony Johnstone is an unknown in the US, but has some name recognition on the European tour (watch the golf channel - you'll see his name somewhere on the leaderboard every once in a while). He is a tiny guy so he's had to compensate for his lack of length with a better short game. There is a foreward by Nick Price (his fellow Zimbabwean) which lends some credibility. But the lessons and thoughts speak for themselves. The chipping/pitching sections hammer home some of the fundamentals that plague weekend golfers like remembering to keep your weight forward, hands well ahead of the ball and accelerating through the ball (and varying your backswing to control distance instead of speed). The book handles every type of awkward stance and lie and the bunker play section explains how to treat almost every type of lie and every type of slope and stance within the sand. As far as putting, to this day I still use Tony's textbook elbows out and locked 'chicken wing' putting stroke - when there is so much ridiculousness out there with belly putters, chest putters, nubbies putters, crosshand grips, this book will provide a well needed back to basics lesson for the average golfer.
Do yourself a favor, don't fear the sand or a downhill lie anymore and get this book.
