Summary: It would be hard to find a better read than this.
Comment: I've been a comic book/graphic novel fan for over 15 years, and the Crimson series is definitely among my top five favorites of all time. Ironically, I bought this book by impulse ... but when I opened it up and started reading, I simply couldn't put it down.
The basic storyline is that a young boy (name of Alex Elder) gets attacked by vampires and almost dies, but he is saved by an ancient vampire named Eskimus, who believes Alex is a chosen one of great, untapped power. What Alex isn't told, however, is that he's only the latest in a long line of "Chosen." All the others have either been killed or turned to evil and became demonic henchmen to the vampire queen Lisseth. This book (and the ones that follow it) are Alex's story and his battle with the darkness inside him.
The artwork is unbelievably good, and the writing and dialogue simply blew my mind. It's amazing the amount of emotion one feels for young Alex and his situation. He can never return to his family, his girlfriend is... well, you'll find out (I don't want to spoil it) :), and he's trying to survive in a life and a city that are quickly spinning out of control.
This is a fantastic read for any fan of the vampire comic genre. The other volumes in the series keep the story going strong, so you're guaranteed an ongoing, involving tale. It's a purchase that's well worth the money.

Summary: RECOMAND THIS
Comment: This is a comic book that's so creative it hurts. The red hoods being a next of kin of the big band wolf and little read riding hood, having to kill werewolves. This is finally a story of vampires that took a creative new look at it and even rewrote vampire history, not having to stick with the same old rules. For this comic they made there own rules, and it works great. COMPELLING STORY and GREAT DRAWING what more can you ask for. I'm an art student from one of the top schools of art in California, so I know good drawing when I see it.

Summary: not very good...
Comment: I'm not sure if I read the same book as these other reviewers. The plot is sub-Anne Rice drivel about vampires that dress and act like Marvel superheroes, Humberto Ramos' art is a grusome cross between manga style and Rob Liefield, and Brian Augustyn's script reads like Chris Clarmont on crack. All the chracters are always introducing themselves by exclaiming their inner angst as loudly as possible, usually in some cutely spelled comic book "accent". Uhgg... this is all the stuff that embarasses me when I try to show someone that there really are graphic novels worth reading. Give this a pass.
