Summary: Broader Spectrum
Comment: Legend of the Holy Lance by Bill Still is a fictional novel that takes on an almost nonfiction-type history. Much of the book is the legend of the lance that stabbed Jesus Christ in the side. Many war leaders have possed the lance like Nebuchanezzar, Cyrus of Persia, Julius Caesar, Merlin, and Hitler. Bill Still intertwined this history with a novel that tells of the recovery of the lance and the evil power that comes over all who want it. Although this novel's story was well thought of, the way Still tells it leaves confusion in your mind. His use of 3rd person switches between characters so fast that after a couple of sentences your lost. In the last few chapters, the onomatopoeias seem very out of place. Through the whole novel there is never an onomatopoeia, and when you read "BUDDA BUDDA BUDDA," it seems strange and foriegn. The book entertains you for hours with its suspense and its ideas of the world, that many of the events in history are controlled by power-hungry people. This possibility shocks me that after analyzation all this could be true about our world and history. With its many historical facts, legends, and creativity, Legend of the Holy Lance is one novel that will enlighten you to thinking about the world in a broader spectrum.
