Comment: I am a RHIA, CCS, working as an senior internal auditor. I have been a DRG coordinator, HIM Director, consultant, etc. Trust me...if you want to learn ICD, this is the best resource you can use. Book explains various clincal processes in detail.
Buy this book if you want to sharpen your ICD skills.

Summary: With answers or not...
Comment: I am a relative newcomer to coding, required in my quest of HIM certification. I am finding the above title very helpful except for the one reason I purchased since this title over another...the answers. The purpose is to practice coding and then check accuracy. Unfortunately, one must read through questions which already contain the answers (like the old teacher's manuals used to be - x'd in, underlined). The final review does carry the answers separately, but too little too late. The answers would have been better placed at the end of chapter.
I also have C Buck's book, which format I find a little easier to follow and read, but (alas!) no answers in this one...so who knows if right or wrong.
Answers or not? With answers, of course, but not incorporated into main text and practice areas.

Faye Brown has been a member of the editorial advisory board for the Coding Clinic, which is published by the Central Office on ICD-9-CM at the American Hospital Association. She also served as acting director of the Central Office in 1990. This definitive book covers the correct way to code any diagnosis situation. Great learning text for beginners as well as a great reference tool for experienced coders. When in doubt, consult Faye Brown!
