Summary: A Poetic Gem
Comment: I "discovered" The Catching Self by accident, and consider it a great "find." The poems are intelligent, mature, and accessible. Or...as Linda Paston comments on the book's back cover, "very good indeed; original, assured, just a touch sardonic." Quite a relief from the shallow and cryptic poetry that's generally being published now. I read in the Boston Globe recently that the poet, John Ronan, won a 1999 National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. Maybe the award will motivate him to publish another collection. I want to read more!!
