Summary: Excellent Quality, Great Value
Comment: I'm a non-Muslim interesting in learning about Islam from the source. I'm very impressed with this Q'uaran from several points: The translation is easy to follow while also presenting the original Arabic text on the same page. The use of parenthesis to help in the translation is an innovative way to avoid footnotes and preserve continuity.
There's a very thorough introduction which has the purpose of explaining not only the Holy Q'uaran's history and language, but several well chosen points that dispel many of our popular (western) misconceptions about Islam. (ie - womens rights, respect of Christianity and other religions, mis-use of the term "Jihad" etc. )
The book itself is leatherbound and very attractive with gilded edges and cloth ribbon bookmark. The paper is very high quality. I would normally expect a book of this quality to sell for twice what it is sold for here. I should also mention that the producers of this book are a non-profit established by the translator and carried on today by his family. I've had the opportunity to compare this translation with several others, and I believe it to be true and unbiased. I've also corresponded with the publishers who clearly take very great pride in the production of this book and describe their work in the project as a labor of love.

Summary: Transbliteration is better description
Comment: Reads pretty but unrealistic, this "version" is nowhere close to original. Since there have been over 600 rewrites of this book since the original quotes of Mohammed to scribes (Mohammed could neither read nor write) in 670 CE (AD) & even more translations, it cannot be compared to the Holy Scripture (Bible) which has over 4000 years of background & documentation to prove the original wording.

In spite of this translation, the hate toward anyone who doesn't buy into Allah comes through the pages. I read the whole book before traveling to Egypt & Jordan and was in Jordan for Ramadan, a "holy holiday" fashion as most of them are, after the original Hebrew holidays laid out by God to Moses. However people were stoned and trampled while chanting after 12 hours of fasting each day and this goes on for 30 days. Again on their most recent annual pilgrimage in SaudiArabia, only 244 of the faithful people were trampled or killed while hundreds more were injured & hospitalized while stoning Satan's pillars one of which had U.S.A. written on it.
DON'T FOOL YOURSELF...THIS IS NOT A RELIGION OR BOOK OF LOVE OR PEACE BUT OF WAR AND HATE! Look at how many "translations" are availabe just through Amazon.

In a much older translation, Koran 9:11 reads: -- "For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah and lo, while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced; for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah; and there was peace."

Note the verse number!! Osama & Saddam should beware!

Summary: good translation to date
Comment: This is most likely the 3rd different version I have tried of the koran. I found it to be very user friendly. The words were easy to understand with clear meanings. I quite enjoyed reading about these 'muslim' peoples religion. I am not of islamic origin but I wanted to learn more. I can understand why it is the worlds fastest growing religion.
