Comment: At a point in my life, when I was hopeless and depressed, I began attending a Rapha 12-step codependency meeting. I had been in so many relationships through out my life and they all ended the same - in heartache!! I couldn't understand it, I gave and gave and could never do enough. I bought this book and worked along in a workbook which is available also. I thought this book was written about me!! I had finally found what was wrong with me! I was codependent! This book offered great insights. I could understand why I was the way I was. I was a people-pleaser and put everyone else before me. My self-worth depended on what other people (mere humans!) thought of me. If they were happy-I was, but let them be upset and I was depressed. I realized that God was the only person who could love me unconditionally and for who I am. What better source for self-esteem is there than that? Recovery is like peeling an onion. There are many layers of pain and sadness. I knew that once I dealt with that pain, I would be free of it. I would be the person I had never been before. It was very exciting. I have also read "Search for Significance" and "Forgiving Your Parents - Forgiving Yourself". I'm sure that all books by Pat Springle and Robert McGee are wonderful and one day I will get around to reading them all.
