Summary: A classic
Comment: Nine years after the appearance of her classic study in child psychology, "The Inner World of Childhood" (1927), Frances G. Wickes published "The Inner World of Man", a work which extends her analysis of the child psyche into the adult world, where she identifies repressed forms of many childhood fears and fantasies. Unlike Wickes' earlier work, "The Inner World of Man" is heavily influenced by the psychology of C. G. Jung, whom she met in the late twenties, and whose disciple she eventually became.
Jung's spirit and influence pervades Wickes' work, but that is not to say that Wickes was in any way overwhelmed by him. Her analysis of the basic Jungian concepts is presented clearly and lucidly, with clear overtones of the warm and compassionate character that emerges in both Wickes' earlier and later works.
