Summary: Enlightening
Comment: I just read this book recently (summer of 2001). Its main purpose was to prepare you for the 2000 election and what we'd be getting if Al Gore won the presidential election. As I was reading it, however, Gore has tentatively hinted another run in '04. Bearing that in mind, I still think this book is informative and necessary to all who might consider voting for Gore and any who might still wish he became the president last election.
Many had imagined Gore to be the better half of the Clinton/Gore team. He certainly projected that wholesome image that Clinton could never pull off. However, this book looks beneath his veneer of respectability and exposes his shady land dealing and utter hypocrisy when it comes to the environment.
As it says in the forward, Bossie and Brown strive to be as accurate as is humanly possible. I am greatful to these two men for giving a history of Gore's life for me, as I knew little of his past.
Get yourself a copy of this book, it is very informative.

Summary: Potshots at an unpopular politician
Comment: "PRINCE ALBERT: The Life and Lies of Al Gore" (ISBN 0-936783-28-1) by David N. Bossie, Floyd G. Brown, and foreword by Robert D. Novak is a book written against a politician who is not popular with certain groups and individuals. Many of the supposed revelations against former Vice President Al Gore have been made against other figures in the past, present, and will probably occur again in future histories from groups and individuals who dislike a specific figure. The authors and Robert D. Novak in the introduction to the book indicate that this book, claiming to be a wakeup call and warning, is not written objectively and impartially towards Al Gore. History reveals that many political figures have calculated their way to positions of power, made compromises, and changed their stands on issues to achieve personal goals and aims. I wonder if the authors would write such a scathing book on newly inaugurated President G. W. Bush if they were not Republican supporters. Further, what would the authors' response be to a book personally attacking them in a similar manner as "PRINCE ALBERT." I am not a die hard supporter of either major or minor American political parties that exists today. I do try to study the issues and candidates before making decisions, unfortunately books such as penned by Mr. Bossie and Mr. Brown has a negative impact on my decisions and view of the political party the authors favor. This title will get a mixture of reactions from the individuals who read the book. The anti-Clinton/Gore groups will praise the book for exposing an corrupt self-serving politician, pro-Clinton/Gore groups will denounce the book as an attempt to discredit a favorite politician, and a majority of individuals will have a mixed reaction somewhere in between the two extremes. I do not like the way the authors have written about their chosen subject, however if asked, I would state my dislike for the book and recommend that the person asking the question read the title and form his or her own opinion on the subject and the authors.

Summary: What does the author want?
Comment: My first reaction to this book was how cheap it was made. Not that it would affect content, but it does make me question it. The author's brief bios were on the front and back inside covers. The one of the back had about a word on each line cut out.
I mention the authors' biographies because it makes me think there may be an agenda here rather than an objective biography of one of our presidential candidates.
Vocabulary alone lets you know that the authors do not like Gore in the least. Many of the facts, and they are facts, can easily be compared to those in other biographies. We know that Al Gore did these things. Personally, I don't find this different from any other politician, but the authors want to push you to anger at the thought of Gore in office. I get the feeling that if it was any Democrat, these guys would write just as much with just as much anger.
If you like to read extreme views, this will certainly whet your appetite. If you are looking to make an informed decision, give this one a skip. After reading, you know get the feeling like you should wash your hands.
