Comment: Although this book is rather old (1928), it has still not met its match. More up-to-date and exhaustive books have been published, with none rendering this one obsolete. This book provides a concise grammatical treatment of each language as well as text specimens from each stage of the language, which are not generally included in other books. Even one who is already familiar with the Semitic languages can gain much from Bergsträsser's insightful presentation and annotations of the texts.
Peter Daniels' comments discuss divergent points of view and raise issues based on more current research.
