Narrated by a wood-be mutt, Duane Stickey, it's the gruesome account of what happens in a local mountain town when you run out of trees and begin splitting infinitives. Chop by chop, it's a lonesome look-back on what life is like when you're young, simple, and so are your clothes. But for protagonist Ferman Falloney, it's a breakaway dream if only he can follow his heart--and the rules contained within the discovery of his grandfather's "Wish Book."
Ferman and Duane, together, beat the odds by using the book, and their brains--something not yet tested in this tiny town of Bole, California. Adventure and excitement ensue, along with the occasional intestinal ailment, but all is not lost but found to be bigger and better than even imagined by Chapster's end. Plus, there's the requisite love interest pay-off. Even a poor sap like Ferman gets what he pines for.
A prophet once cracked wise: Be careful what you wish for. In this case, you'll wish you were back in high school. Reading Strodder's amazing take on life among the lockers and the loggers...and laughing out loud.

Comment: This story will warm your heart, tickle your funnybone and ponder your head (to use a bit of the book's wacky vernacular). As usual, Strodder weaves a yarn that keeps you on the edge and wanting more. The Wish Book delivers characters you care about in an inventive, interesting and humorous story. For the romantic, Strodder's book captures the intensity and hesitation of one's first love. And, for the mystery reader he supplies engrossing surprises while also eliciting lots of laughs. This book is truly original -- a one-of-a-kind gem and a definite must-read!
