Summary: Non-fiction, reads like a novel. Exposes politics of power
Comment: This little book does more to expose how huge companies, arm in arm with government, control decisions made about the lives of average citizens than most I have read. The authors submit evidence on how some government level decisions affecting our health and safety are made NOT with our welefare in mind, but are based entirely on the profit motive. In the case of this book it is the mega-giant electric companies who purchased government favors allowing them to build power lines across land occupied by innocent families. Researchers who pointed out the chronic and deadly conditions caused by the electro-magnetic fields were put out of business and their data suppressed.
This is a true story about the researchers' confrontation with the companies and government policy makers. A gut-wrenching account of the victimization of US citizens (researchers, workers, families), this book is an eye opener and a must read for those who have any sort of concern that some government agencies are prostituting themselves to big business.
The subject matter in this book would make a great subject for a blockbuster movie. I am having to buy another copy of the book because my original has fallen apart from handling by so many readers.
