Comment: These four volumes (two in each of two Parts) are reprints of textbooks that were used to train a generation of NSA and military cryptanalysts. They evolved from Friedman's "Military Cryptanalysis" series (also available). While this work predates the modern era of cryptography (DES, RSA, etc.), it still affords an excellent foundation in the techniques and philosophy of real-world cryptanalysis. There are numerous tables, worked-out examples, and exercises, making this work suitable for self-study. Every budding cryptographer should thoroughly assimilate what this series teaches.
