Summary: Kids Eat Up Edible Math
Comment: I'm using Gobble Up Math for a staff development session on "edible math" for primary math teachers. This book uses a variety of readily available foods to teach math concepts such as geometry, patterns, fractions, sets, counting, computation, etc. I particularly like the activities using pretzel sticks to create geometric shapes; using raisins "plopped" into peanut butter spread on celery sticks to practice addition facts, the commuative property, etc.; and the use of plain-old cheese slices to create fractional parts and equivalent fractions. Kids are highly motivated whenever food is involved. This book will add an interesting dimension to the teaching of math, AND they can eat their mathematical creations. Additionally, the activities are short and easy to read and prepare, a must for the busy classroom teacher who is always short on time.
