Summary: Kimbrough Scores in Black Greeks 101
Comment: This is a work for anyone who works with students on college campuses in the U.S.A. That includes parents, friends, deans, siblings. Walter's magnificent portrayal of the evolution of fraternities and sororities that were developed by blacks is solidly based on his research.

Summary: Insightful
Comment: I have not had the privelege of reading the book in its entirety, but the pieces I've read and the comments that i have heard about it have all been positive. Knowledge is power and educating ourselves is nothing less than empowerment.
Also, alot of people have misconceptions of BGLOs (black greek letter organizations). Some people go round and round in circles using big fancy words just to come to the conclusion that BGLO's are gangs of immature monsters who thrive off of hazing. All I have to say is that each organization has chapters that are representations of the organization, but essentially are just part of the whole; therefore it is unfair to judge an organization by the actions of 1, 2, or how ever many chapters. Not all chapters are the same and not all greeks are the same.
BGLOs do alot of positive whether you see it (hear or believe for that matter) or not, but that kind of stuff never makes the headlines...Does it? That's not up for discussion, is it?

Summary: A bleak future
Comment: This book was written with great scholarship and sincerity. I would give five stars for that. The book lacks hope future for greek organizations. Hazing is that sour taste that has been in their mouths since their inception. Undergraduates are unwilling to part with the pledge process, committing a form of anarchy. The leadership unwilling to lay down the law on these underlings makes the fruit ripe for continued rebellion. In other words, you see the author struggle with reality here. He knows there is and never will be a middle ground in the pledge process. In other words, hazing among the intelligent, hopefuls of the future will continue. Some will come out OK! others will come out bruised and battered emotionally and physically. I say to greekdom, "Who is in control?" A bunch of "wet behind the ears" teenagers, or the placating adults on the mighty executive councils and graduate chapters of these organizations. We must all watch together as the deaths, maimings, comas, etc. continue. My concern is for the innocent souls who have no idea of what they are getting into.
