Summary: Splatter Novel With Brains
Comment: I was standing in store reading a movie magazine, studying a list of upcoming movies. The one that stood out was The Relic. It sounded, if it was done right, like a really fun film. I looked up. I was surprised. There, in front of me, was the novel that the movie was to be based on. PAusing only slightly to concider the coincidence, I took the book up to the counter and brought it.
At home that night, I read the book, and was impressed. An A-grade splatter novel with brains. It had the thrills and setup of the best Midnight Monster Movies, the scientific musings of a Crichton novel, and the characters straight out of both.
The story, if you must know, is about a mysterious monster that lives beneath the New York Museum and likes to eat brains. After it, a young graduate student, a quriky FBI agent and host other police and museum staff. And then there's that big public exhibition coming up...
Fun, fast and intellegent, with several memorable characters and some interesting theories thrown in. And the greatest achievent? Reading a novel about a mutated brain-eating monster and being able to take it seriously. Well, seriously enough.

Summary: My favorite book of all time !
Comment: I had just finished reading Jurassic Park and my buddy recommended that I check out a book that was the first written by co-authors, Preston & Child. I said that it couldn't be better than JP. Boy was I wrong! The way that Preston & Child's text flows is amazing. Their stories are so detailed, yet so easy to read. The characters in Relic are easy to feel for. They seem real, not like superhuman characters that have special traits. The creature in the story is horrifying, unlike the creature in the terrible hollywood version. If you like some fact to go along with your fiction, then check out any of the books by Preston & Child. I have read all of their books and, with the exception of "Reliquary" they are all fantastic. It's not to take away from "Reliquary" as a story by itself, but to try to make a successful sequal to the superior "Relic" was bound to fail. "Relic" is an incredible tale of terror. Give it a shot, you won't regret it!

Summary: Debut title for author duo... One of the best books out
Comment: Not much to say other than this was one of the best conceived and written books of its kind I have ever read. Preston and Child do not write with such a "sterile" style as Crichton, and that really gives them the edge.
This is a scary damn read. Very much so.
