Summary: A Promising Book
Comment: While being quite a dense read, this is a suprisingly accessible treatment of the history of the Burgundian lands "over there". As well as dealing with the actions and policies of the Valois family, it deftly examines the interactions between court, state and the people, and the way in which Burgundian rule strongly influence the economic, cultural and spiritual life of the low countries. This ranks up there with Barabara Tuchman's "A Distant Mirror" for popular history that does not treat the reader like an idiot!
