Summary: Enhancing Teacher Performance
Comment: The case studies in this book clearly highlight the difficulties teachers face in the workplace and the lack of time that is allocated to thinking and reflecting on their performance. The case studies demonstrate the benefits reflection has on enhanced teacher performance, which in turn contributes to more effective learning for students. Lessons learned from this research can be structured in the school setting to enhance teacher performance and student achievement.

Summary: A "MUST HAVE" For All Teachers!!
Comment: Critically engaging, direct, and rich with real-life examples, "Reflection" is a must-read for in-service and pre-service teachers alike who hope to engage in meaningful learning about themselves as educators. Joelle Jay's book creates a clear dialogue on the importance of real reflective activity for all teachers, no matter how long they have served in schools. While reading, I found myself stopping to consider how my own practice as a classroom teacher fit in to the larger picture. This is truly an important work!

Even though I have engaged in reflective practice since becoming a classroom teacher, Joelle Jay's book opened my eyes to many new levels of reflective activities -- activities that would make me a more effective instructor, peer, and student advocate. Joelle Jay has taken small moments from the lives of four master teachers and turned them into a mirror for all teachers. The book is a thoughtful and definitive work on the importance of reflection for all educators. Critically detailed and impeccably reseached, Joelle Jay caused me to have so many moments of "Aha!" that the people sitting next to me at Starbucks finally had to ask what I was reading.

"A primer for great teaching," was my reply.
