Comment: This is one of the best books on the subject, due not only to the author's immense and wide-ranging scholarship but also to her clear and accessible writing. Many books on the goddess focus only narrowly, usually on Greek and/or Roman goddesses, but Whence the Goddesses shows the breadth and depth of human awareness of the feminine divine. I was especially grateful for the many translations of literature addressed to or describing the goddess. A lovely and useful work.
