Summary: A Scattered Seed Bears Fruit
Comment: I had only been re-born for four months when God took Rich Mullins home, yet he continues to be used by God even after his death. Almost exactly a year after my rebirth, while listening to some Rich Mullins music, my wife realized she had a religion, not a relationship. And, even though he had passed from this world, Rich's music played a part in my wife coming to know Christ as both Lord & Savior. 'An Arrow Pointing to Heaven' continues God's use of Rich Mullins' life. Not only is it biographical, it is devotional. Although I ripped through its pages in one day, I have gone back on numerous occasions, even using some of his illustrations in the pulpit, perhaps to lead another lost soul to Christ. It saddens me to know I will never get to see Rich in concert. At least I, and any who read this book and listen to the included cd, will get to look inside the man who was caught in the reckless raging fury of God's love. May you be so consumed!

Summary: I cried my way through this book...
Comment: The stories about Rich in his day-to-day life moved me beyond what i can express. This is the only book besides Brutchko that i've ever read in one evening. It is that inspiring and life giving.
Without giving away too much, some of the personal stories that moved me were: His pulling over the van at 11:11 p.m. to pray for his friends; his always helping with the set-up at his concerts; the writing of a song about a little girl who wasn't supposed to live; his literal giving of the shirt off his back to Mr. Foster; and his giving of all the profits from one of his tours to a church in Bogota.
I simply don't love Jesus the way Rich did. He struggled, wrestled, gave, and prayed like no one else I've ever met. Thank God for his life. Thank God the Mullin's family let Smith write this book.
Life is hard, but God is good. Rich embraced that contradiction and mystery with reckless abandon. "From the place where morning gathers you look sometimes forever 'til you see what time may never know, what time may never know..." I long to see the sunrise and see beyond time to the pulsing love of God like Rich did. May God increase the wideness in all of our heart's to behold Him as clearly as Rich Mullin's did.

Summary: Amazing Man, Amazing Biography
Comment: Wayne "Rich" Mullins lived a radical, outspoken, imperfect, brutally honest, faith-filled life in which he marveled at the Creator's love, beheld nature's beauty down at Johnson's Creek, let everything that could be shaken be shaken, sang unmatched praise to an awesome God -- and touched hundreds of thousands of hearts with his musical and lyrical poignancy. When his life drew to a sudden, tragic close, Rich was beginning to grasp more deeply than ever what Manning calls "the relentless tenderness of Jesus," as expressed in Rich's posthumously released "The Jesus Record." Smith's biography captures the life behind the music, exploring in full, satisfying measure the paradoxical facets of Rich's character and personality: his childlike trust and his leaf-shaking frailty, his wildness and wonder, his quiet spiritual insights and not-so-quiet political barbs. This book is an absolute treasure and a fitting memorial. (Note: The CD included with the hardcover edition is an excellent introduction to Mullins' music for those who haven't yet had the pleasure of hearing him.)
