Summary: None better, IMO
Comment: I have read at least a dozen books on death and dying and none have given me as much comfort as this one. My only regret is I didn't buy it earlier. I could have spared myself much suffering and grief over the loss of so many loved ones. I no longer fear death because this book explained and answered all my questions in a way no other book has been able to. It isn't a politically correct, feel good book about dying but one based on biblical principles.

Summary: Answers Many Questions
Comment: This book answers many questions about what happens when you die, with emphasis from a Christian perspective. It was illuminating and had good scripture references. It was especially interesting to be listening to RC Sproul's (Reformed) tape-of-the-month tapes on this subject at the same time. It was like they were both reading from the same script. Come to think of it, they were!
The reading is simple and broken down into easily manageable chapters, which makes good reading for those times when you only have ten minutes or so at a time. The level is good for both new Christians and more mature ones and even for non-Christians (an invitation is given). Definitely worth reading and something you might want to leave laying out so visitors can see it (they might want to borrow it).

Summary: Some good thoughts mixed in with bad theology
Comment: "One Minute After You Die" takes you through the afterlife through the perspective of a Calvnistic preacher at the famous Moody Church in Chicago. The book takes you through nearly everything ranging from reincarnation and near-death experiences to what heaven and hades are like, and to the fate of suicides.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this slim book of 144 pages, and I learned a lot from it. However, I must warn young Christians that Dr. Lutzer's theology is a Calvinistic and thus un-Biblical. The Bible does not teach perseverance of the saints nor does it teach election by predestination.
I especially had trouble with Chapter 7 in which Dr. Lutzer talks about "Faith in God's Providence". The author says that ultimately all deaths are in God's hands, and that we are all called home when our "hour" approaches. This type of thinking leaves out man's free will.
Chapter 8 really makes me tremble in fear for those who do not know the Bible. The author states that in order to become a Christian you muat place your trust in Christ alone, but he says nothing about REPENTANCE. Praying a "Sinners' Prayer" will not get anyone into Heaven.
It is with great reluctance that I would recommend this book- only to those who are strongly rooted in thier faith and in Church history. Otherwise, I strongly advise that you read the Bible, and also study church history, especially study the writings of the early Church Fathers.
