Summary: Solid, lively basic introduction -- important reading!
Comment: This is a solid, basic introduction to a little-considered area of American history and contemporary life, the relationships among Native Americans and Black Americans. This is a solid piece of work, well researched and well written. Although the series is designed for younger readers, this work is intellectually respectable (and engaging) for adults interested in making an initial exploration of the topic. The author is breaking some relatively new ground in exploring the implications of race, color, and ethnicity (as well as social class) and the blending of races and ethnicities in contemporary culture. The format/design engages the eye, and the pictures are well-chosen and "worth a thousand words." I recommend it highly. (4 stars rather than five, only because it is a simple introduction, rather than a full-blown study.)
