Summary: Full of Errors and false information
Comment: Using this book as a textbook in university in a required course was painful. It is full or errors (Differences between SIMMs & DIMMs, that the system clock is in the CPU, etc...). The pictures are for the most part incorrect, they have a picture of a modem and call it a video card, other picture show a hand drawn network cable being plugged in to the power socket on the back of the computer! This is possibly the most misleading and mis-informative book on computers I've ever seen. Avoid it if possible.

Summary: Okay, though a bit hack
Comment: It's okay -- though there are superior textbooks out there. "Discovering Computers" would be better if it dealt more with the history of computers instead of centering on modern techno-terms. If one understands where a hard drive came from, for example, it could be easier to see where its technology is going. A book of similar size, price and content that's a bit more fun is called "Information Technology: The Breaking Wave."

Summary: Discovering COmputers is great!
Comment: I enjoyed the interaction I got fromthe book with my students. I think it is an excellent tool to use not only for public schools but also for my continuing education classes for all aged people.
