Comment: If you've never picked up a guitar before but would like to learn and furthermore want flamenco guitar to be the first style to learn this is the book for you. I deducted half a point for the simple fact that it doesn't include a cd. However, if a beginner takes the time to thoroughly study everything in this book a good foundation will be set not only for flamenco music but for classical guitar too. Standard notation is the only method used in this book but it starts out with small single-string studies and exercises, introducing note-by-note and open chord diagrams. Around the middle of the book the rasgueado is explained and some of the best photos I've ever seen on exactly how a rasgueado is played are shown. A great photo is also provided for the Golpe (tap).
This primer is good enough it could be used by a beginning classical guitarist if they wished. Everything needed to keep a beginning guitar student interested is here - standard notation, arpegios, chords, compas (rhythm studies), tremolo study, free stroke, rest stroke, photos showing how to sit and hold the guitar traditional flamenco style or traditional classical guitar style and last but not least some easy but fun to play flamenco solo songs. The last page of the book is a chord diagram reference for easily learning from one page all the chords introduced and used throughout the book.
