Summary: I highly recommend this book.
Comment: To the reader who like myself, who has no religious, cultural or familial links to the middle east, but has an insatiable curiosity driving a desire to understand the riddle that is the middle east, this book is an excellent starting point.

If you wonder about the never ending peace process, if you wonder what exactly is driving terrorists such as Osama Bin Laden, if you wonder why there is such hatred for the USA in Arab Muslim nations, then I highly recommend that you make the effort to complete this book.

I first heard Yosef Bodansky speak on national TV during the period after Sept 11, 2001. Mr. Bodansky was the one middle east expert that actually seemed to understand all the players and the issues.

When I heard he had completed a book, which he had begun well before 9/11, I was most interested.

Now having made the effort to read the book, I feel that I truly have the fundamental knowledge necessary to understand the news coming out the middle east.

I suggest to any reader who has the time and the desire that you do a little online research first about the creation of Israel and get yourself a current map of the Greater Middle East region and put it up on your wall as I did. You will then be set for a fascinating journey.

Many thanks to Mr. Bodansky for the effort he made to create this book - it is truly an outstanding work.

I finished reading this book March 29, 2004.

Summary: The finest endorsement an author can receive
Comment: Unusually gifted is this man Yossef Bodansky as he again penetrates the fog of Islamic terrorism and presents accusatory new evidence of not only the Muslim adversaries of the United States but also reveals the incompetence of United States administrations.
His unusual depth of knowledge allows him to state his case in a scholarly way that progressively builds on events and inexorably leads us to the sad circumstances now facing the free world.
One can only smile as we envision the faces of the Clinton's as their misdeeds are exposed for the world to see.
This book will not only infuriate the Muslim world as did Bodansky's last book about Bin Laden...

Summary: Where's the evidence?
Comment: I really don't understand how so many people can rate this book so positively when there is NOT ONE SINGLE FOOTNOTE in the entire work. He makes all sorts of wild claims (for example, that Iran purchased nuclear weapons from Kazakhstan in 1992) but there is NOTHING to back this up. It is all unproven allegations supposedly derived from "human sources" that he cannot reveal (for their own safety, of course). The bottom line is you might as well be reading a Robert Ludlum novel or internet conspiracy site for all the good this book does you. What is fact, and what is fiction in this book? Who even knows, since it is impossible to evaluate his sources!

You can judge Bodansky's credibility by his assertion (at the time of publication in July 2002) that a massive Middle East war was inevitable in which Iran would nuke Israel. Moreover, the author claimed that if the US attacked Iraq, Iraq would retaliate against Israel with chemical and biological weapons. Gee, looks like none of that happened, eh?
