Summary: Star Control: Interbellum
Comment: What the hell was Quick thinking?!?!?! It's an okay book, but he got a lot of things wrong. First of all, the Illwrath are loathsome, hellish, worshipping spiders! Not little toy soldiers. And the Mycon aren't sentient. If Quick writes another book about SC, he better play the game first.

Summary: James Fraser from saskatoon
Comment: Interbellum is an okay read, but my brother who reviewed it here gives it way too much credit. I just finished it for the second time, and it is a fun read because i'm such a fanatic about the game, however to anyone familiar with the star control universe, which I have been for 10 years, it is truly pitiful. I enjoyed it because it's so silly, the aliens in this book are nothing like they are in the game. What in the hell was W.T Quick thinking when he wrote this book? I wonder if he has ever in his life actually played any of the star control games in the entire trilogy. The Ilwrath are supposed to be an evil torturesome race who think of nothing but torturing other species as sacrifices to their vile gods of death and destruction, but W.T Quick has them as these stupid toy soldiers, acting like something from the movie small soldiers. The Ur-Quan's mycon servant, who isn't supposed to be sentient, is cowardly and talks and thinks like a person without any of the nonsensical rambling featured in the game. I enjoy reading this book because it's so funny. I've never read anything like it. The author understands absolutely nothing about star control whatsoever.

Summary: Interbellum is okay
Comment: I read the book and enjoyed it somewhat, but that is just because I have been a huge star control fan for many years. However, I found the Ilwrath just plain silly, and the Mycon servant isn't even supposed to be sentient. The book is quite readable, but for anyone who has never played the star control series, I would say it would be quite impossible to know what is going on. I enjoyed the book, and look forward to the next, but I hope it will resemble the game much more clearly, Jem was an interesting character, and the Ur-quan was excellent, but overall, Interbellum was just too disorganized.
