Summary: Highly recommended for mystery buffs
Comment: In Doctor Nose, author David Evans draws upon his own considerable medical training and experience to provide a background authenticity that significantly contributes to making his debut novel a truly impressive medical mystery. Doctor Nose is Dr. Drucker Lampling, a busy and successful Ear, Nose and Throat who becomes outraged by the pervasive unethical practices of the physician-administrators of a local medical group. Dr. Lampling resigns from his volunteer activities at the hospital becomes a whistle blower, telling his story to the local paper. This is soon followed by his making a grisly discovery a murdered hospital colleague. The next thing he knows, Dr. Lampling is accused of murder. It's up to the doctor to defend himself the only way he can -- solve a murder steeped in intrigue and permeated with deceit. Doctor Nose is highly recommended for mystery buffs and documents David Evans as a writer of considerable talent in the genre.

Summary: Medical murder mystery in the land of managed care
Comment: Dr. Evans had written a highly readable and engrossing murder mystery. As he is a physician, it is no surprise that the technical and forsensic elements of the book are accurate. In addition, however, the book contains a biting and accurate satire of the managed care and hospital management systems which have so changed the nature of contemporary medical practice. The novel is set in Sacramento, Dr. Evans' home and a heavily managed care environment, and the setting is well utilized as a backdrop for a well crafted mystery. The novel will be of interest to mystery lovers, and will be of special interest to those with a medical background. Highly recommended.
