Summary: Read this thriller by Phillip Margolin!
Comment: Run as fast as you can and pick up a copy of this book. That's right. I said run, so don't be walking. Of the several other books which Phillip Margolin has written, and I have read all of them, this is his very best. The action is so fast paced that the pages turn themselves and before you want it to end, you will be closing the book.

In Wild Justice, I found the characters to be so finely drawn and described, it is as if we know them well. And be prepared for a plot which twists and turns and scenes which will send shivers up and down your body as an out of control doctor is arrested and tried for a series of gruesome murders, only to be let go due a technicality. Then years later when it appears as though Dr. Vincent Cardoni is long dead, the police find evidence of bodies murdered in the same manner but this time the doctor's ex-wife Justine Castle is found guilty.

Added to this roller coaster ride of a book, is a young laywer employed by her father's legal firm who not only represents the good doctor but also his wife. And while I won't say anything more I would love to see Mr. Margolin write another book with some of these same characters.

Wild Justice is a wonderful thriller which can easily take its place among the novels written by both James Patterson and Jonathan Kellerman among other noted writers of this genre. I only hope it doesn't take Mr. Margolin too long to write his next book because until then, I'll be waiting.

Summary: Good for reading in the smallest room in the house
Comment: I can't imagine what books previous reviewers are reading to consider any of the cheesy cardboard characters in this tome as more than 1 micrometer thick. Lassie Go Home? The real murderer was unmistakably telegraphed on page 127, and even the plot machinations designed to lead us away from this obvious revelation were embarrassingly, pellucidly thin.

I'm always a fan of gristle and gore, and there was that aplenty, but with no great sense of where its maniacal power derived from. "I was an abused child, and now I'm a mega-, multiple-serial killer. Woe is me." Puh-leez.

On the one hand, I finished this in 5 hours flat, and it was something of a page turner. So, if you're working on flogging your melanocytes on the beach, maybe it's worth a read to keep you awake.

If, on the other hand, you're serious about your crime novels and want to linger over some delicious prose and mind-boggling characterizations, you might want to try spending some quality time with anything by Elizabeth George or the fabulous new book from Robert Wilson, A Small Death in Portugal.

Like so many things in life, it's all a matter of priorities!

Summary: Just not very good.
Comment: A co-worker of mine read this after it had been recommended by a friend. But she was disappointed when she finished it. I should have listened to her and skipped it, but I didn't have anything else to read at the time, so I gave it a shot.

The plot is fast-paced, and exciting, but there really isn't much more to it, besides a lot of bodies, blood and gore. The characters are completely unrealistic and shallow, and the "twist" at the end is easy to see coming. I had it figured out around page 125 somewhere.

If you like a page-turner with lots of violence, you may enjoy this book. Otherwise, it's not worth the time.
