Summary: The most in-depth book about frugality.
Comment: I have read dozens of books on living a frugal lifestyle, and I have to say that The Tighwad Gazette is the best one of them all. A well written book containing excellent suggestions for saving money and cutting your expenses. It is very well written and goes into depth with regard to the tips it offers. The Tightwad Gazette is more than just a list of tips to save money. Amy doesn't just tell you what to do, she tells you how to do it, so that you can then figure out new things for yourself. In this sense, you become self-sufficient in the area of frugality

Summary: Maybe it was a good book back then...
Comment: but this book was not as all what I expected. Maybe when the book came out it helped people save money, but in these days a lot of the things seem downright cheap. When I say cheap I don't mean save money cheap, I mean way cheap! Regardless of how frugal I was, I would never make my child use a jump roap made out of grocery bags or pick through a dumpster for unlabled canned goods. The section about bringing up baby didn't have much frugal advice to offer either except buy clothes second hand and don't buy your baby toys, pacifiers, swings, or any of that stuff because Ms. Dacyczyn's child never used them when she bought them so therefor your child shouldn't need them either! While I did get some good laughs out of how cheap and lame some of these ideas were, 2 stars for the book.

Summary: More than penny pinching
Comment: This is much more than a book on tips to save money. Along with Tightwad I and III, this is a bible for managing a household on less. Her philosophies on material goods and spending really resonate with me. These books are the most used and well-worn books in my library. I bought it in hardcover long ago, and thought it was worth every cent. Now that it's in paperback, I don't see any reason why one shouldn't own this book.
