Summary: Part of a Club
Comment: I guess that I'm not a scientist. I never quantified my distractibility etc... (although my old school records could probably show statistics). All I can say is that I was diagnosed ADD a couple years ago, but I didn't realized the cause and effect of ADD. For every action there is an equal and oppisite reaction. By being distracted, I was punished in my youth (or other problems). I guess I could add a chapter in the book myself. Because of being undiagnosed and uneducated regarding ADD, my life was not all that it will be. For those who don't have ADD they may not relate. How can you describe the taste of butter to someone if they have never tasted butter. It's kind of rich, and salty, creamy, I have no scientific proof, but it is describe that way by so many...(they would not understand). In reading this I felt like I was more like part of a club, rather then an outcast. I only got about half way through, and honestly I was a bit sad or scared. You see it was sort of a challange for me to figure out why I was the way I was. It was the additional "ball to juggle" which was manifested from this problem. I'm a bit afraid to finish the rest of the book. If the rest of the book answers the rest of any remaining questions that I have, then what would I do to fill the large gap of 'searching for answers' which has consumed such a large portion of my life. But I will finish the book. I imagine that I will always have some questions.
I don't know who said
"A moment of realization is worth a thousand prayers"
but it rings home for me.
Good luck

Summary: Driven to Distraction
Comment: If you're looking for an easy to understand explanation of ADD/ADHD by two professionals who have it themselves, Driven to Distraction excels! Thanks to Stewart Ater, M. D., (of Houston, TX) who recommended that we read this book when he diagnosed ADHD for our 20 yr. old daughter, this incredible book drastically changed our lives. After years of set backs and searching for answers, we finally found not only the cause, but also the best treatment for the condition. Without the valuable information supplied by the two physicians who wrote this book, we would never have understood so completely what all ADHA entails. Please email us if you would like to ask any questions about this inestimable guide. Robert and Yvonne Turner email: [email protected]

Summary: A good resource after you know an ADD diagnosis
Comment: Good summary of how to cope with your ADD as an adult. However, it would be best if you know already whether ADD is a likely diagnosis before you read this book. Then, and only then, should you read "Driven to Distraction" by Hallowell and Ratey, both MDs. They have a good listing of ADD characteristics and many useful tips, presented concisely, but their initial presentation is case studies. I believe that ADDers may not have the patience to read through that, as I well know. I also recommend "You Mean I'm Not Lazy, Stupid or Crazy" by Kelly and Ramundo as the best first reader for adults trying to investigate their own ADD possibility. Thanks to all authors who help those with ADD!
