Summary: Very Well Made
Comment: When I bought my copy, I checked the book's printing number. It says 04 03 02 4 3. I believe it means this book is already on its third printing. No wonder. Sam's Teach Yourself Flash MX in 24 Hours is written by an author who seems to know what it means to be a teacher, apart from being a Flash expert. The lessons are methodical but efficient, short but well-thought out. They were the kind that sparks one's creativity and sustain one's interest to learn. The author, Mr Kerman, teaches not just fundamental Flash lessons that should never be forgetten but also good habits to follow while working with Flash. He didn't try to be funny nor distant. His approach is business-like but personal. As a result, you feel at home with the software, while at the same time, you build confidence knowing that you are learning from a source who knows the subject and actually knows how to teach it! The book material and type itself are of very good quality, yet it only costs about half of any other book on this subject and level. (Kudos to Sam's Publishing.) It made learning Flash MX much fun and very interesting. Highly recommended!

Summary: A Reference Text for Beginners to Experts
Comment: I have recently read 'Teach Yourself Macromedia Flash MX in 24 Hours'and found it an extremely well written book. As a novice with Flash, I found Phillip Kerman's explanations very easy to understand and his tasks easy to follow. As a beginner's text I found the book exceptional, although that is not to say that the book is only for beginners. Potentially complex tasks such as using ActionScript to develop Flash movies are explained well.
Phillip Kerman's writing style is open and informative. It is obvious that he has a broad understanding of how Flash MX works, both from a technical viewpoint as well as a user's viewpoint. He provides valuable insight into various aspects of Flash MX which are not available in other areas such as Help files etc. He provides alternatives to performing various tasks, as well as highlighting Flash MX's keyboard shortcuts to improve your efficiency.
I highly recommend this book as both a way to learn how to use Flash MX and also as a very useful reference text when developing in Flash MX.
Rating: 5
Summary: very easy to understand, great for beginners to flash
Comment: this book has a great balance between being conversational and showing examples, making it easy for a first time Flash user like myself to work through the program. key concepts are repeated frequently as you navigate through the chapters, so each new chapter helps refresh the previous ones.
i definitely would recommend it to anyone trying to teach themselves flash.
