Comment: This delightful tale, about an extraordinary girl named Matilda who lives with her dreadful parents, was also made into a movie in 1996. Children love the absolute meanness of the adults in the book, and Matilda?s unique solution to her wretched life. Mr. Dahl, author of Charlie and the Chocolate factory and James and the Giant Peach, balances the ludicrous behavior of the adults in his book with the sweet natured child who has reached her limit.

My children loved it -- an absolute keeper!
