Summary: A Book of Wonders!
Comment: I have been interested in dreams for decades, and in that time have read many books on the subject. By comparison with other popular books on dreams, Robert Moss's books are singular in breadth and depth of subject range, readability, and usefullness of the exercises presented to the reader. Moss takes the reader through an exploration of known dream territories and further, to the exciting outside edge of dream possibilities. He cites historical and cultural information to show that many of these concepts are not new, but have been practiced since ancient times. The wealth of information in this book is invaluable. Moss knows that there are many kinds of dreams, and many ways of dreaming. Dreaming is an education and an adventure, and Moss's books are wonderful guides for both the casually curious and the seasoned dream explorer. (I also highly recommend both Conscious Dreaming and Dreaming True by Robert Moss. Conscious Dreaming would be an excellent place for someone new to dream study to begin their explorations.)

Summary: Learning to Fly
Comment: I found myself saying "Yes! Yes! Yes!" page after page, as if this book had been written just for me. Although I was familiar with many of the underlying concepts presented, Robert Moss pulled it all together in a new dynamic way that was immediately helpful to me. None of the other many books I have read about dreaming had the thread of genius and promise that runs through this one.
True, this is a practical recipe book for dream work--but its entertaining and simple presentation veils its often profound power. The techniques expand on ever deeper levels for those who find that dreams can be a vehicle for an ongoing spiritual journey. We all take what we can, and I like to think I will never reach the end. This book tells you there is no end.
For those who cry "Mysticism!" I would say that I don't give labels much attention. If a technique works, and it is beautiful and enriching to my life, I don't care what quickie sticky label is pasted onto it. "A rose by any other name shall smell as sweet." The man who wrote that line knew alot about dreams.
This book is self-proving. Give it even half a real chance and it will change your life. Trust me, you CAN fly over the walls of your cubicle!

Summary: Navigating the hidden worlds of the Dreamscape
Comment: As a newbie to lucid dreaming, I skimmed over 30 books before finding the truest and most compelling framework for understanding my dreaming experiences in the writings of Robert Moss. This gem of a book stands out as thoughtful and thought-provoking body of work that sets the individual dreamer squarely in charge of his/her own experiences in the dreamscapes. In comparison, I've found many other books on the subject that seem trite or simplistic. While lucid dreaming is a birthright for everyone, taking along a knowledgeable and reassuring guide such as Robert Moss adds context, depth and meaning to those experiences.
Dreamgates provides the reader with suggestions and practices for navigating within the dreamscape. Moss suggests possible locales within the dreaming realities to visit and explore - places that have been charted over the centuries by well-known dreamers such as Robert Louis Stevenson, William Blake, and Carl Jung. In addition, Dreamgates gently suggests that if or when we encounter others within the dreamscape, we should stay with the experience and enter into dialogue to understand the meaning of the encounter. That in and of itself is worth the cover price.
This book is a must read for anyone who dreams, or dreams about dreaming. It is Moss' second book on dreaming, building on the concepts and practices of his foundational work: "Conscious Dreaming," which I also highly recommend.
