Summary: Delight for all dog lovers
Comment: My husband and I adopted our first dog less than a year ago and our dog-lover friends gave us a subscription to The Bark as a "baby-gift." We've enjoyed reading every issue of The Bark and got this book after seeing the advertisement for it in the magazine--what a treasure! The writing styles are diverse and each story lends its own unique flair to a delightful compilation. My husband and I rarely read the same books as our tastes differ quite a bit, but we have had difficulty taking turns with this! Unfortunately, I don't think the book has gotten a lot of publicity outside its ads in The Bark, so I want to spread the word about what a good read it is and what a great gift it makes for any and all dog-lovers.

Summary: Food for the soul of every dog lover
Comment: This fresh and inspirational compilation is food for the soul of every dog lover. Every page serves to confirm the strength of the human-canine bond, and the degree of unconditional love shared between mankind and dogs. I loved every word, even those that brought tears to my eyes and put a lump in my throat. The talented writings are simply heartwarming. An ideal gift book for the holidays, or any occasion.

Summary: Steer clear of this dysfunctional book
Comment: Today's crop of dog lovers are a delusional breed apart from the rest of humanity. This book is a disturbing look at just how obsessed some owners are with their dogs. One owner claims that dogs are better than babies, because as far as she knows, babies don't give "unconditional love". Another has a cardiologist and other specialists for her dog, and has spent $30,000 subjecting her beast to all kind of medical procedures. One woman is so emotionally dependent on her dog, that it has curtailed her lifestyle.
These dog nuts check out the nutrition labels for their dog's food, or even home-cook the animal's meal. If you want to read this for its pathological value, it won't disappoint. It's a case study of a new type of psychological dysfunction. But otherwise, steer clear of this anthropomorphic garbage. While reading Dog is My Co-Pilot, I felt the urge to to tell each writer that "it's just a dog, stop fussing so much over it!"
