Summary: An Ozarks Treasure
Comment: This collection of short tall tales is the funniest book I've seen in years. Somehow Hall was able to tell these hilarious 'true' stories in such a way that they're not insulting to the hillbillies. I can say that because I consider myself a hillbilly (At least, I'm from that southeastern Christian County area). The butt of every joke and the loser in every trade made between the hillbillies and the college professor is always the professor. My favorite of all the stories is "Uly Mae and the Stray Pig," which I think is the tallest tall tale of them all!

Summary: The Hungry Hills: Ozarks Tales and Sketches-- Delightful
Comment: The Hungry Hills is a delightful and sympathetic look at an isolated community of Ozarks hillbillies in 1970's and 1980's. It focuses upon a dozen colorful character, such as Uly MaeBumgardner, The Reverend Bob "Holy" Roller, and Vardaman-the-Talking-Crow. I couldn't put it down. I recommend reading the stories out loud!
