Summary: The Van Gogh Cafe
Comment: Filled with magical tales that left my fourth-graders wide-eyed and wanting to hear more. Cynthia Rylant, a favorite author of mine, has created an enthralling book that captures the interest of youngsters and adults alike.

Rating: 5
Summary: A magical book of the everyday happenings at the Van Gogh...
Comment: This book is probably the best book I have ever read. I love the magical and nice suspense put into the book. A few fellow classmates of mine and I loved it so much, we dressed up in striped red and white shirts, black pants, berets, and created 'A Poetry Evening at the Van Gogh Cafe' for a school project. We included it with poems about magic and the Cafe, read the poem Invitation by Shel Silverstein, recited Marc's poetry, and topped it off with a pair of bongos and a spotlight. Well, I loved everything about this book: the way each chapter led into another, the font and pictures put at the top of each page, even the cover is beautiful. I think every person in the world should own a copy of this book.

Rating: 4
Summary: More Than Just Cookies and Cream.
Comment: THE VAN GOGH CAFE is a selection of stories about a "magical" cafe in a particular town in Kansas. The cafe is run by a man named Marc and his daughter. The cafe used to be an old moviehouse/vaudeville theatre and some of the performing magic is still around. Strange and uplifting events happen at the cafe. Some would call them bizarre, some just mere coincidence, others perhaps Providence. The book pretty much lets the reader decide. Whatever the case, one will go away feeling kind of warm and fuzzy and uplifted about life. I usually don't recommend books that are totally warm and fuzzy, but this is a book that I'll make an exception.
