Summary: I can't agree more
Comment: King James authorized this translation because an accurate translation was necessary in order that people could expose themselves to the lessons contained within and to form their own opinions on theological matters (as well as to keep the political opposition occupied for as long as possible). In those days, bibles in English were just becoming affordable and people scrambled to form their own opinions on theological and moral issues. Now, it seems that many Christians have become so complacent about their faith that it is not uncommon to hear them grossly misquote their own creator. If indeed you believe that there is one God and that the Bible is divinely inspired, then how could you resist the temptation to read what He has (caused to be) written? With much of the original Greek, Aramaic, and Hebrew texts lost, this is the last English language Bible to benefit from all of the original works. Fifty top translators worked for six years to bring it about using methods that still stand as monuments to proper translating today. Read it. It's fun, interesting, and if you have never read it before, you will learn things about the Christian faith that your priest, preacher, pastor, or minister has never told you.

Summary: What is there to say?
Comment: The top-selling book of all time, believed by many to be the complete word of God, this version based on the original believed-inerrant manuscripts.
Don't avoid it because so many believe in it. Ask yourself, if so many people believe in it, aren't the chances good that it has something pertinent to your life? Even if you don't believe Christ was anything but an enlightened prophet, or even just a nice guy, read it. If you're interested in the words of Lao Tzu, Buddha, Mohommad, then you have no excuse not to read the words of Christ that so many have missed. Tolerance, understanding, trust, doing good when you know it's going to be difficult, or when you'll get nothing in return; these are some of the tenets of the life Yeshua said would lead you to enlightenment. Who knows? Chances are you'll end up more enlightened/Christ-like than most Christians these days.
Which reminds me:
Don't let many of the loudest Christians give you a bad impression of Christ. They often preach hate and intolerance, while Christ went out of his way to include even whores among his friends. If you end up understanding why he did this, and can look past the outside to the soul of another like he did in this instance, you have solved a major piece of the puzzle already.

Summary: The Death Warrant for Mankind
Comment: This book has a rabid cult following. There is even a book club devoted soley to it who call themselves "Christians".
The author of this work of Fiction is God. This book is actually a compilation of God's work; including the Bible Part 1 and the Bible Part 2.
There is a severe decline in quality from the first book to the second. It seems that inbetween writing these two books God lost his wit, charm, and sardonic black comedic touch. The second book has no flavor, being mostly a quickie biography of a Jewish celebrity 2,000 years ago named Jesus "the Christ". It seems that many details have been bloated to make Jesus appear to be something more than human. Much the same as the depiction of Charles Manson in Helter Skelter.
Not surprisingly, since He is the author of this work, God is a major character in these two stories. Boldly, He has placed himself in the role of antagonist, and spends a good amount of time literally killing everyone in all sorts of ways.
As a whole the work comes across as highly implausable, and self serving.
It is rumoured that God is only the pen name of a number of insane sadistic Jews intent upon enslaving our minds and generally making us feel bad about ourselves.
God is not a particularly original author; much of the book, especially the 'Old Testament' is blatant plagerism of the obviously made up Greek mythology.
The opinion I am left with after reading this pop fiction is that God, a relatively harmless, benign, shy sort of deity, has disguised Himself for no greater reason than to be mischievious.
On this level the book is successful. It has devided readers into three groups: the ones who disbelieve in the Bible and therefore disbelieve in God altogether, the ones who believe the Bible and believe that God is exactly what the Bible says he is;
And the ones who know there is a God, and know that Christianity has nothing to do with God.
So, in spite of some truly inspired sadistic moments, buckets of blood, and loads of perverse sex, I cannot recommend this book. After all, it is the Death Warrant of Mankind.
And mankind is okay with me. I love mankind; just the way it is.
