Summary: Important book for audience researchers
Comment: In this stellar and accessibly-written book, Richard Butsch helps us to understand the ways in which audiences have played a role in the development of the social practices of television- and movie-viewing that we now take for granted.
I used several chapters of this book in an undergraduate course on media history and the students found the work so interesting that I will use the entire book next time I teach the course! The general reader will find this book to be highly readable and interesting; the audience researcher will find it essential. Highly recommended.
