Title: Piano Music 1888-1905 by Claude Debussy ISBN: 0486227715 Publisher: Dover Pubns Pub. Date: June, 1974 Format: Paperback Volumes: 1 List Price(USD): $10.95 |

Summary: Must-have collection for Debussy lovers
Comment: While many important compositions are not included in this volume for copyright reasons (such as "Children's Corner"), this book has all the essential Debussy. In particular, you will find the popular 1st Arabesque, theme of the PBS astronomy "Star Gazer" (formerly "Star Hustler.") The entire Suite Bergamasque is here, including the over-played Clair de Lune and the under-played Minuet. The edition has the notation corrected by Beveridge Webster, a noted pianist and (now retired) faculty member of Juilliard School of Music.
The Estampes ("Prints") suite is included, with some of the most gorgeous Impressionist music ever written such as the "Jardins sous la Pluie" -- one of the most evocative water pieces ever written. There is a lot of music here, from the traditional pieces played by students (Reverie, Passepied) to the most challenging piano works of Debussy such as the "Estampes." This is a top-quality collection of musical compositions and really a must-have book in any musical library.

Summary: Good buy
Comment: I have used this particular edition for well over 20 years, and am constantly pleased by its sturdiness and legibility. I heartily recommend the Dover edition, not only of the Debussy, but of any work they may publish.
Rating: 4
Summary: Durable and Convenient
Comment: I found Dover's edition of Debussy's piano works to suit my needs very well. I am a student pianist and carry my books around with me all over campus. Some have managed to live the stress of college, such as this edition....while others had to visit the "glue and tape" hospital. Not only is it sturdy, but the print is neither too small or too big and of good quality. My only complaint, is the lack of a commentary on Debussy and his works presented within the text.
