Summary: Disappointed by the science, but a undeniable page turner.
Comment: This is the second book I read from Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child. As usual, I was immediately drawn to the compelling story of a lost city, and read over 100 pages a day. The narrative is furious and fast and never led down. The characters are surprisingly likeable but predictable. I could guess what Sloane would turned out to be way before the end of the book. However, this is a minor complain in a book made for popcorn entertainment. The only thing I don't like about this book and The Ice Limit (also by Child/Preston) is that there are supernatural elements that are not explain, unlike the books of Michael Crichton. Overall, I felt anyone looking for a good read should pick up this book.

Summary: Need a great summer page-turner? This is your book!
Comment: Child and Preston have created their best novel to date here, a combination of archaological/anthropological fact and mystery thriller fiction that is hard to put down once begun. The southwestern setting, specifically the canyon country of the Colorado basin is skillfully (and for the most part, accurately) drawn, and there is enough actual historical information about the Anasazi and their mysterious legacy to render the book "educational," to a degree. Also noteworthy is the improved character development the authors have provided this time around. Whereas in *Riptide* just about all of the characters were of the carboard-cutout type, the people who animate *Thunderhead* actually display a few internal conflicts and contradictions. Tolstoy it's not, but for a quick summertime read, I don't think we should raise the bar TOO high.

The ending, while filled with interesting twists and turns, is manically theatrical, perhaps too much so. But given the grandiose and dramatic plot lines that develop throoughout the preceding hundreds of pages, a Hollywood-type ending is surely forgivable here. If you want Great Literature, look elsewhere, but if you want a fun and absorbing read, this book might just be for you.

Summary: Like a thunder Ball on my Head
Comment: I have always loved these guys' books. Why? You ask; because their stories are both fast paced and exciting. I have read many writers who give you an adventure tale that are so far fetched it is not even fun anymore. I like fiction, but not science fiction. This Story deals with a Girl who's father (an archeologist of Native American Studies,) turns up missing and it is up to her and a rogue team of scientists to find him and solve the mystery of a lost city in the desert. That is just the start, I haven't gotten to the fun part yet, here were are faced with diseases, mad scientists, witchdoctors, flash floods and great romance. I strongly recommend it. This is a good book for the road or air. I will not steer you wrong.
