Summary: Carly Phillips does it again...
Comment: I really enjoyed reading this book. But, unfortunately I'm having trouble determining whether I like the book for the books sake or because I enjoyed the other two Chandler boys' stories... Because he's so shy, Chase is the most difficult to like, so I feel like Phillips needed to work doubly hard to make this book a success... All in all I think it was the surrounding storyline and the series wrap-up that made me like it so much. It wasn't the romance between Chase and Sloane and that was dissapointing. Still a great book; still one I couldn't put down. But, instead of absolute fireworks, I was left with wanting to know more about what's gonna happen with the other characters than what's gonna happen between Chase and Sloane.
I'd like to suggest to Ms. Phillips that she write another Yorkshire Falls novel, set 10 years or so in the future, focusing on Kendall's sister, Hannah. Then we'll get to see what's become of all the characters we've come to love and hopefully we'll get one last shot a true romance because if nothing else, that's what The Heartbreaker was missing.

Summary: What a disappontment...
Comment: I was so looking forward to Chase's story after brothers Roman (The Bachelor) and Rick (The Playboy) were happily married off.. The basic premise of the trilogy is that mother Raina fakes a heart condition to force her 3 handsome sons to marry and beget children.
Heartbreaker starts out with black-haired, blue-eyed Chase bedding a gorgeous redhead he met in a bar. This is out of character for both the steadfast, small-town reporter and for Sloan Carlisle, daughter of a political Senator. She was confused and depressed that night, after learning a tragic secret and so turned to Chase for a one-night stand. So, I thought, this is going to be one of those fall into lust first, fall into love later stories. OK. Then by coincidence, don't hero and heroine meet up together in his small hometown, as he's been appointed her "Protector" by Sloane's mother. I knew this was coming but it seemed contrived which is why I just couldn't cozy up to Chase and Sloane as characters or as a couple.
Chase had a lot of good, Romance Hero qualities: he was handsome, loyal, ethical and shy. But Sloane was very two-dimensional. She jumped into bed with the hero one hour after meeting him - I find that more of a turn-off than a turn-on. There's a Biker Bar scene that didn't come off as sexy either, just weird. Sloane's emotions flit from spacey to "come-hither" to sobbing within a matter of minutes. She did not have a consistent personality, nor did the author let it develop. She ran hot/cold and saw things as black and white and that's probably why I didn't care for her.
I usually love to "visit" with characters from previous books but here I found the Rick/Kendall, Roman/Charlotte, Raina/Eric stories just got in the way of an already slow-moving romance between the main protagonists.
So - go ahead and read Heartbreaker just so you can cap off the Chandler brothers story. But I was diappointed by the rushed, irrelevant plot and flat characters (Sloane).
Try harder next time, Carly Phillips - you've got talent. Slow down, take your time and give us a humorous, heartwarming story that your many fans know you're capable of.

Summary: The Last of Those Boys...
Comment: Chase Chandler, the oldest Chandler is very reluctant to get involved with a serious relationship. His "been-there-done-that" attitude affects his judgement about marriage and family. But Chase meets his match with Sloane Carlisle, the one night stand that didn't go away. Sloane is the daughter of a vice presidential candidate and is seeking to discover some family secrets in Yorkshire Falls, the Chandler's hometown. Chase, who is the towns newspaperman trying to get an exclusive has found the best story, involving Sloane's secrets. As he and Sloane fall in love, Chase must decide what's more important: his career and ideals or the woman he loves...
A perfect way to end the Chandler reign...
