Title: Stepney Bluebell Engine (Thomas the Tank Engine) by Rev. W. Awdry ISBN: 0-434-92795-3 Publisher: Egmont Childrens Books Pub. Date: 15 August, 1963 Format: Hardcover |
Average Customer Rating: 5 (1 review)
Rating: 5
Summary: Fine example of mature Awdry
Comment: Of the 26 Wilbert Awdry books, this is the first to be illustrated by Peter and Gunvor Edwards and continues the quest for railway realism. Stepney is the second real engine to visit Sodor after City of Truro, and he lives at the famous Bluebell Railway in Sussex. This pioneering preserved line opened when steam was in its last days on British Railways, and the author was a member. Anyhow.. the first two stories deal with mass scrapping of steam on BR and the other locos who escaped to found the Bluebell with Stepney. The third story is about Stepney driving off with a cricket ball, and the last story is about a boastful diesel.
