Summary: Look past the cover - it's deeper than it looks. I loved it
Comment: I picked up this book thinking it would be a bit of fluffy fun, but from the first page it was clear that London had a larger scope in mind. Her tryannical father, diagnosed with terminal cancer, manipulates his three daughters ruthlessly and wounds them all, but Robin finds a way through his destructiveness to the real world. She is a spoiled princess with everything, and Jake is a self-made man who has little tolerance for her, but the two find a middle ground and eventually love, with a lot of humor along the way. This is a charming story. I look forward to seeing what London will do with the other sister's stories.

Summary: Dreadfully dull
Comment: this book is about a woman with tons of money, a great job, no ability to do that job, who just happens to be a spoiled brat.
This, is our heroine.
And the guy who can't take his eyes off of her is impressed by her purchase of a pack of flamingos for her nonexistant swimming pool. Oh yeah. He's also impressed that she steps down from her princess title long enough to eat a hotdog.
There's a lot of sentimental garbage in the background too. For instance, the hero's nephew whose parents have both died and has a huge chip on his shoulder and refuses to talk to anyone, suddenly, inexplicably, finds his teenage self able to talk to a voluptuously gorgeous older woman. The hero is also suitably impressed by that.
Really, I find this quite shocking. Most teenage boys when given a chance to talk to a beautiful woman or their overbearing uncle seem to gravitate without fail towards the overbearing male. Hmm. Scratch that. Reverse it. And take out the 'shocking' bit.
But on the plus side, the prose is long-winded, repetitive and disgustingly sentimental.

Summary: Fabulous, fabulous hero....
Comment: I really loved this book and could not put it down. I loved the fact that Robin was real and not sweet and innocent and TSTL. But hands down, the best part of the book is Jake. His character was so well drawn that I have put him on the list of my all time favorite heroes. I have read Julia London's historicals and thought they were great, but I LOVE her modern book!
