Summary: Concise guide to the people of Early Modern Europe
Comment: Kamen's Who's Who in Europe is a 1000 entry guide to some of the most important figures of Early Modern Europe. The entries contain biographic and bibliographic information and in the main cover just enough to give an idea of the chief contribution(s) of each individual. Some entries, though, are slightly biased by the opinion of the writer. Phrases such as, "erroneously believed" should have been left out, except when the individual covered in the entry was clearly operating on misinformation. Compared to Grendler's six-volume Encyclopedia of the Renaissance Kamen's guide is rather slim. But, you can't throw Grendler's encyclopedia in a briefcase or backpack as a companion to whatever you are currently reading. I have found Who's Who in Europe useful and would recommend it to anyone studying Early Modern Europe who doesn't already have Grendler's work or needs something portable.
