Summary: The Hidden Life of Dogs
Comment: If you are a lover of anything canine, you will laugh and cry as you read this book. Elizabeth Thomas has a great deal to say about the lives our friends lead when we are not with them. I have never been so engrossed in a book about animals. You will enjoy every page if you enjoy stories about dogs. Elizabeth followed her dogs around for a year, observing their comings and goings, their behavior, and their own grief when their friends died. I was so amazed, and now I know what my own dog is trying to tell me when he greets me. You must read this book!

Summary: well written, but hard to read
Comment: While this book is well written I found it hard to read. I found it incredible that anyone would let a dog loose on the streets to "follow" it around and that she watched one of her dogs get raped. Her words not mine. I also noted that she mentioned problems with her neighbors due to the dogs. I am a dog lover and found some of this hard to swallow. I detest irresponsible dog ownership. She seemed to be so single focused on studying the dogs that common sense went out the window in the interest of "science" and one could argue there isn't much science involved in her methods.

Summary: An Excellent dog lover book
Comment: I thought this book was a very enjoyable book to read. Thomas is a fascinating individual who does an excellent job of seeing right through dogs and making great observations. I especially loved following the lives of the dogs and the dog pack as a whole from when they are born to their emotional deaths. Those who commented that this book is lacking statistical information and scientific observations are really missing the point. If you want a boring book on dog pyschology get something else. But if you want an intriuging and fun book that really makes you think, get this. You'll love it.
